Herbal Qualities of Our Essential Oils

Bergamot- Floral, citrus scent; uplifting for anxiety and depression; regulates appetite; effective against acne, shingles, cold sores, chicken pox, boils; effective as an insect repellent.

Calendula- A light floral scent; useful for reducing stress, inflammation, and skin disorders.

Cedar- A woody, dry, warm scent; possesses antiseptic, astringent, sedative, and diuretic properties; useful in treating anxiety, acne, cystitis, lung and respiratory ailments, dandruff, and is great against oily skin.

Chamomile- Calming; effective against depression, insomnia, dry, sensitive skin, eczema, menstrual pain (when used as an abdominal massage).

Cinnamon- (Cassia, bark, leaf, & root). A spicy, warm, sweet and pungent scent; possesses powerful antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic properties, as well as aphrodisiac, stimulating, and warming qualities; useful in treating fatigue, poor circulation, depression, and coughs.

Citronella- A bright lemony citrus scent; wonderful bug repellent.

Clove- Spicy scent; good for a toothache.

Eucalyptus- Disinfects the air, and is a fantastic decongestant; helps to increase blood flow; used as an antiseptic and insect repellent.

Jasmine- Rich floral scent; strong antidepressant; imparts a feeling of confidence.

Juniper- Light, stimulating oil; said to relieve fear and apathy; useful as a disinfectant; clears the mind when emotionally drained.

Lavender- A clean, sweet, cooling, refreshing floral scent; possesses relaxing, antiseptic, healing, antidepressant, soothing, and analgesic properties; great for treating insomnia, headaches and migraines, skin irritations, tired muscles, and tension.

Lemon- Fresh citrus scent; relieves mental pressure.

Lemongrass- A fresh, tart, citrus scent; possesses invigorating, sanitizing, astringent, toning, revitalizing properties; useful in treating oily skin, dandruff, mental focus, fatigue, acne, and skin tone.

Lime- A refreshing citrus smell; used to invigorate and uplift the mind.

Litisea- Sweet, strong lemony aroma; energizing & uplifting.

Neroli- Sweet citrus extract from the orange blossoms of the Citrus aurantium tree.

Orange- A sweet, tangy, full-bodied citrus scent; has both refreshing and mild sedative qualities, in addition to antidepressant and antispasmodic properties; useful in treating insomnia, and digestive problems.

Patchouli- A woody, rich, sensual earthy scent; possesses both relaxing and rejuvenating qualities, plus aphrodisiac, toning, and healing properties; useful in treating dry and mature skin, anxiety, eczema, dermatitis, and acne.

Palmarosa- Fresh, rose-like scent; reestablishes the balance of skin; combats wrinkles.

Peppermint- A stimulatingly sharp, fresh, clean, bright minty scent; possesses stimulating, analgesic, penetrating and cooling, refreshing, antiseptic properties; great for tired feet and mind, useful in treating fatigue, digestion problems, headaches, skin irritations, motion sickness, sunburn and even PMS; clears and balances the emotions.

Rose- Relaxing, antidepressant; balances the female reproductive system; has tonic effect on dry, sensitive, or aging skin.

Rosemary- A bright, stimulating, woody, balsamic scent; possesses toning, invigorating, astringent, analgesic, and stimulating properties; useful in treating fatigue, circulation problems, sore muscles, gout, varicose veins, and respiratory problems; aids in memory and concentration; promotes hair growth and luster; tightens pores.

Rosewood- Rosy spice scent; enlivening; soothes sensitive skin; combats blemishes, scars, wrinkles; cellular stimulant.

Sage- A mild, nutty, herbal scent; possesses warming, antidepressant, moisturizing, soothing properties; stimulates the pituitary gland, which secretes endorphins, known for their tendency to kill pain and induce euphoria; useful in treating depression, insomnia, digestive problems, nervous tension, and menstruation problems.

Sandalwood- Sweet, woody scent; quieting, meditative effect; used to heal dehydrated or oily skin.

Spearmint- Cooling, refreshing scent; great for feet; effective against sunburn, motion sickness, indigestion, headaches, menstrual cramps; repels black ants.

Tangerine- A slightly sharp, tart, cool citrus scent; possesses sedative, antispasmodic, and antidepressant properties; useful in treating insomnia, nervous tension, intestinal problems, irritability and depression; great for children.

Tea Tree Oil- From the Melaleuca alternifolia tree; a powerful germicide with a scent similar to eucalyptus; known in Australia as the medicine chest in a bottle; useful in treating acne; used as an insect repellent, decongestants, and liniments.

Vetiver- Deep, smoky, earthy aroma; it is antiseptic, aphrodisiac, sedative, calming; excellent for stress and tension; settles the nerves.

White Thyme- Fresh and clean; stimulating.

Ylang-Ylang- Sweet exotic scent; said to soothe anger; eases oily skin.
